Overview
The Department of Design at Goldsmiths, University of London, is pleased to announce one 3-year, fully funded, PhD studentship in Design, available from October 2010 or January 2011.The student will be expected to make a strong contribution to research in the department, working with established researchers on topics close to their own. Examples of relevant research groups and interests within the department include:


* The Interaction Research Studio : socially-oriented and speculative interaction design. Current projects focus on design for interpretation and re framing online information for specific situations.
* The PI studio : ubiquitous computing, product innovation, and design for public spaces.
* Technology Education Research Unit : exploring design processes, including through digital capture, in the contexts of learning, teaching, assessment and research.
* Environmental Design : critically sensitive design interventions focused on environmental issues. Current projects focus on ecological urbanism, designing for political engagement and participation, and creative practice for climate change.
* New Materials : the nature, attributes of and applications for new materials for design



Eligibility
The University is looking for a truly top calibre student to receive this award. Applicants should hold, or expect to have attained, a masters degree (distinction or merit) by the time the studentship commences. The University is particularly interested in applicants with significant design experience or experience in academia, with a good track record of design in professional or research contexts, and/or a track record of research and publication.

Overview
Development of a Heap Leaching Simulator for the Minerals Industry Imperial College London, Department of Earth Science and Engineering, Phd Studentship. Heap leaching is a process for extracting metals from ores. It is rapidly increasing in its usage due to lower operating and capital costs compared to more conventional extraction methods.This project will involve integrating a novel continuum description for the unsaturated flow of liquid through a packed bed with models for mass transport, reaction kinetics and heat flow within the heap in order to produce an overall simulation of the process.


Eligibility

* A C/C++ programming ability is essential and it is highly desirable that the candidate has a background in fluid dynamics
* excellent students with a background in Engineering, Physics or Applied Maths

Overview
The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies invites applications for the Snorri Sturluson Icelandic Fellowships. The Snorri Sturluson Fellowships are granted to writers, translators and scholars (not to university students) in the field of humanities, from outside Iceland, to enable them to stay in Iceland for a period of at least three months, in order to improve their knowledge of the Icelandic language, culture and society.

The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies advertises the Fellowships, handles applications, and assists Fellows during their stay in Iceland, at the conclusion of which Fellows are expected to submit a report to the Institute on how the grant was spent.

Fellowship

* is based in principle on travel expenses to and from Iceland plus living expenses while in the country;
* number of them are awarded once a year;
* a special three-man committee, comprising representatives of the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, the University of Iceland Literary Institute, and the Writers` Association of Iceland, awards the fellowships.

Overview
This European Master in Sustainable Regional Health Systems aims to fill the gap in Health Management by approaching the theme of health system management and planning on a regional level.

This Master promotes the benchmarking of the different health system models helping to construct the comprehensive health system management and planning, including both, health care and promotion, as well as the interrelation between health and socio-economic areas. It aims to spread out the European model of health promotion and health planning, sustainability and the role of health system in social cohesion and strengthening of social capital.


At the end of the Masters Course the students will graduate with Joint Master`s degree awarded by all Consortium universities and can work as middle and upper level managers in hospitals and health services as well as in regional and national administrative bodies related to public health planning and management in diverse sectors: health insurance, health financing, strategic planning, etc.

Scholarship
If you are a non-EU student (Category A):

* Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs: € 8000
* Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage):

- € 4000 / semester
- Monthly allowance: € 1000 / month

The rationale of the Masters of Lifelong Learning is to increase the awareness of European Lifelong Learning policies in a regional European context as well as on a global scale. It aims to provide policy-makers and professionals with responsibility for managing, delivering or supporting Lifelong Learning with opportunities to develop their own analysis and practice in what is a constantly changing economic, social, technological and policy environment.

* a good first degree (humanities or social sciences) from a recognised institution of higher education
* a satisfactory level of spoken and written English: IELTS 7.0 and TOEFL 650 (written paper test)



The Master of Lifelong Learning seeks to form professionals able to:

* Design and develop educational policies concerned with Lifelong Learning
* Promote innovation processes within Lifelong Learning systems suited to the social and organisational contexts in which they are to be undertaken, so as to facilitate change and social transformation
* Develop competences required in order to mediate between the educational community and the needs of the local environment

Scholarship amounts to 21,000 Euro per academic year. This includes 10 monthly grants of 1,600 Euro and a fixed amount of 5,000 Euro for fees, travel expenses, relocation costs, etc. For courses lasting two years, the student receives double this amount, i.e. 42,000 Euro.

Master Scholarship in Digital Library Learning

Overview
Digital Library Learning is a two-year Master Programme for information professionals who intend to work in the complex world of digital libraries. DILL is offered in cooperation between Oslo University College (Norway), Tallinn University (Estonia), and Parma University (Italy). Students will spend at least one semester at each institution.

Learning Objectives:

* To gain knowledge of digital librarianship through studying the cutting edge of digital library research as well as real world applications and best practices.
* To develop research skills through supervised independent research projects within the digital environment, using relevant methods and analytical approaches.
* To understand the impact of digital environments on the role of information professionals in the knowledge society.

Eligibility
Dill will admit both European and so-called third-country (i.e. non-EU/EEA-EFTA) students. Scholarships are available both to students from third countries and students from the EU/EFTA-EEA area. More information about the different scholarships is found under Scholarship.

Requirements for all DILL students:

* A degree in Library and Information Science (based on no less than three years of full-time study – 180 ECTS) or equivalent qualifications, such as a degree in another relevant subject.
* Knowledge and skills of computers for information use.
* English skills. Students from non-English speaking countries must have passed:

* either IELTS (International English Language Testing System) (minimum score: 5.5 points)
* or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) (minimum score: 550 on the paper based test, 213 on the computer based test, or 79 on the Internet based test).
* Exemptions from submitting the the English test scores may be given if the applicants fills one of the following conditions:

+ English is your mother tongue, or
+ You have completed a degree with English as the means of education (must be documented by your university)

Please note: the maximum number of Erasmus Mundus Master Courses for which students can apply is 3.

Scholarship
All applicants can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. For the year 2010-2012, there are 10 scholarships available for third country students, 8 scholarships for students from the EU/EEA-states and 2 scholarships for students from the area of Western Balkans and Turkey. The number of scholarships available for the class 2011-13 has not yet been decided.

Category A scholarships. A Category A scholarship may be awarded to third country nationals, who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, training, work) for more than a total of 12 months in an EU-EEA country. The category A scholarship amounts to a monthly allowance of 1000€ per month/12000€ per year for two years. In addition the students will receive a contribution to travel and installation costs at the beginning of each school year of 4000€, coming to a total of 8000€ for the two-year course. The tuition fees will be covered by the scholarship.

Category B scholarships. A Category B scholarship may be awarded to students from the EU-EEA area, as well as third country students who has been residing in the EU-EEA area for more than 12 months within the last five years. The scholarship amounts to 500€ per month/6000€ per year for two years, plus coverage of tuition fees.

It is not possible to apply for a scholarship without a place on DILL. Once you have been accepted as a student on Dill, the Dill consortium will apply for a scholarship on your behalf.

Definitions:

* By Third country-students is meant citizens coming from all countries other than: - The 27 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The UK) - The EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
* Third country applicants cannot have been residents of, or carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) in, any of the above countries for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years.
* By Western Balkans and Turkey, is meant students coming from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under the UNSC Resolution 1244/99, Former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.

International Master in Management of IT at Erasmus Mundus

Overview
Erasmus Mundus programme: International Master in Management of IT (IMMIT), is jointly offered by IAE Aix Graduate School of Management, Université Paul Cezanne Aix-Marseille III (France), Turku University (Finland) and Tilburg University (The Netherlands). The IMMIT programme degree totals 120 ECTS credits, to be completed in 2 years full-time studies. The language of instruction is English.

Structure of the IMMIT
The first semester will start in September at IAE Aix-en-Provence. The emphasis will be on the foundations of international business. The semester will finish in December and in January the students will move to the University of Turku in Finland to start the second semester. The main focus of the second semester will be on skills in IT management. The second semester will finish in May.

The third semester will start at Tilburg University in September and the emphasis shifts towards integration issues such as the role of IT in business transformation,management of IT -based innovation and more specialized topics in international IT management. The fourth semester starts in February and is devoted to thesis work, which includes an internship in an international operating company. This internship could be anywhere in Europe.

Applicants need to meet the following admission criteria:

* open to students with a Bachelor`s or equivalent undergraduate degree (180 ECTS) either in Management/Economics/Business Administration or in Computer Science/Information System;
* Students with an engineering degree can be admitted if their previous education includes IT and information systems;
* A satisfactory scholastic average, a minimum 3.0 (B) grade-point average in Bachelor`s degree work completed after the first two years.
* English proficiency test: Academic IELTS (min. 6.5 overall/6.0 on parts), TOEFL (min. paper based: 575, computer based: 233, internet based: 90) or Cambridge Proficiency;
* An official copy of your GMAT test. The average GMAT score of accepted students is 600. Or an official copy of your GRE test score. Our incoming students usually score above the 75% percentile on the quantitative section;
* Students with a relevant Bachelor degree from one of the partner institutions of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, IAE Aix-en-Provence and Turku University do not need to submit the GMAT/GRE test score. (Note: a GMAT/GRE is however required in case a student wants to qualify for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship Category A or Category B);
* a statement of purpose (motivation letter);
* Two letters of recommendation;
* Complete resume in English.


Scholarship

* approx. €48.000 during the 2 years of studies/Category A students
* approx. €20.000 during the 2 years of studies/Category B students

* A clear copy of your passport (valid until October 2012). The copy of your passport should be in English, stating you full names, date of birth and place of birth.

* A certified copy (with the official stamp of either the school or the Dutch Embassy) of your Bachelor`s or Master`s degree, including a transcript of all records/list of grades. If you have not obtained your diploma yet, please enclose a certified copy of your most recent transcript of records/list of grades.
* A short description of all the courses that you have taken during your (under)graduate studies that you think are relevant for applying to IMMIT. You may write these descriptions yourself or copy them from your university`s study guide (if possible) and you can send them by Email to: immit@uvt.nl

Evaluation of applications

Applications of candidates which meet the requirements are recommended for further assessment by the Selection Committee, which jointly shortlists the candidates to be invited for a 4 days` period of interviews in Vienna. Invitations are sent 5-6 weeks in advance.

Overview
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented individuals for a PhD scholarship in radiochemistry at the Hevesy Laboratory at Risø DTU.

The Hevesy Laboratory is a radiochemical and radiopharmaceutical facility at Risø DTU. The laboratory has a 16.5 MeV cyclotron equipped with a beam line for in-house production of isotopes, including 18F for PET scanning. The research laboratories and clean rooms feature state of the art equipment for radioactive and stable isotope chemistry.


At present, we are 20 people in a multidisciplinary team, working with both research and production. Among the research activities currently conducted are 18F chemistry, tritium chemistry and Auger emitting nuclides for therapy.

Research
Drawing on recent advances in organic-, organometallic- and radiochemistry the successful candidate will explore new methods of 18F-C bond formation using 18F fluoride. The research will also include the development of new methodologies for extraction of 18F-fluoride from target water and converting it into an efficient fluorination source.

Qualifications
Candidates should have (or be about to obtain) a master`s degree in engineering, radiochemistry, organic- or organometallic chemistry or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master`s degree in engineering. The candidate should also demonstrate a strong commitment to research.

Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
